43rd Lahore Ophthalmo 2025 - Pearl Continental Hotel Lahore

The 43rd Lahore Ophthalmic Conference in conjunction with the 47th National Symposium of the Pakistan Ophthalmological Society successfully brought together the world leading ophthalmic experts. Within this larger academic forum, the Third Annual Symposium of the Pakistan Oculoplastic Association (POA)stood out prominently and left a lasting impression. POA delivered an extensive scientific segment comprising 11 structured academic sessions, comprehensively covering the spectrum of oculoplastic and orbital disorders—ranging from eyelid pathologies to lacrimal disorders, orbital tumors, trauma, infections, and reconstructive procedures. Renowned speakers, experienced surgeons, and active researchers presented original scientific work, innovative surgical modifications, and case-based learning material. The participation was strong, sessions remained house-full, and the scientific depth of discussions reinforced the rapidly advancing standards in Pakistani oculoplastic surgery.

A moment of pride at the symposium was the awarding the Zia ul Islam Gold Medal in Oculoplasty and Orbit to Prof. Sofia Iqbal, General Secretary of POA.

The medal, considered the highest recognition in this specialty within Pakistan, is awarded annually to an individual demonstrating exceptional surgical skill, academic contribution, leadership, and service. The medal was formally conferred during the inauguration ceremony on 5th December, and was celebrated throughout the meeting as a highlight achievement.

On 6th December, at the Galadinner, the Pakistan Oculoplastic Association conferred honors to acknowledge pillars of the specialty and individuals whose consistent contributions strengthened the society. Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to Prof. Tayyab Afghani, Prof. IbrarHussain, Prof. Zahid Kamal Siddiqui, and Brig. (R) Amir Yaqub for their exemplary commitment and foundational contributions to oculoplastic services in Pakistan.

Distinguished Services Awards were awarded to

Prof. Sofia Iqbal,
and Prof. KhWaja Khaled Shoaib Butt, recognizing their academic leadership, teaching excellence, clinical achievements, and organizational roles.

Dr. Salman Hamza and Dr. Mohammed Idris Daud was given shields of appreciation for their contributions to chalk out the scientific program of oculoplastics and orbit.

Awards were given to the participants who presented their work in the form of a video presentation and were selected as the best in the video competition.

A notable feature was the screening of a specially produced documentary marking 20 years of the evolution of POA highlighting key milestones, academic efforts, training initiatives, and its nationwide impact. The audience received it warmly, reflecting both pride and continuity of commitment.

The POA executive board meeting also took place in the boardroom, attended by senior faculty, where important strategic discussions, future plans, and institutional expansions were deliberated. With a strong academic footprint, inspirational recognitions, full attendance, and a well-coordinated team effort, the Pakistan Oculoplastic Association made its mark as a vibrant, progressive, and academically dynamic specialty body within the national ophthalmic community.
